That is NOT all Garcia's fault, and if you listen to the rest of the band too, you will realize Jerry's idea doesn't change, but the rest of The Dead, having gotten so used to playing the song swung, struggle to follow Jerry. Conceptually speaking, he was doing something relatively cool, but in performance THROUGHOUT, it is terrible. Actually what he did was relatively creative, as he took a shuffle, Wharf Rat, a song in which the verses are usually swung and instead played a modified theme of Throwing Stones, aborting the triplet feel of a tune that is swung to a song where there is an eighth note pulse. First of all, let me start off by saying that the show is clearly not a stellar effort by any stretch of the imagination, and the sound quality of this AUD is lacking as well however, I would just like to assure anyone that doesn't know any better that Garcia, who was obviously not doing that well, did not just 'get lost in the music' during Wharf Rat. I wish I could respond directly to the fools who think there were no good moments at Grateful Dead shows after this year or that year.Jerry did.NOT. The Who, whilegeniuses in their own right, confined themselvesmusically to a very basic skill level andyet performed many shows at a level that wouldmake a subpar bar band blush.Get enough musical experience under your beltand you'll never regret listening to the Deadagain. But even on a terriblenight this band outperformed equivalent super-bands.I grew up in England in the 1960s and wasextremely lucky to have been exposed to theimmortal music scene of that period.Nevertheless, the number of totally stinkerRolling Stones Concerts must number in themany hundreds - I mean a complete lack of evenbasic musical functionality. I have to say this rendition isboth a creative success and listenable. While it is true that there are many, manyfine moments in 1995, the boys were definitelyengaged in a tough uphill struggle and Garciawas the cement sled.
